2026-03-27 on the lack of good sensemaking infrastructure
Someone pointed me at Terafab announce by Musk last week.
I wanted to dig in and find some high quality evaluation ( Musk tends to overclaim/overpromise - tho he has shipped stuff 😉)
And well it's hard going … the best i found was a paywalled substack article.
Most stuff I found is not much more than a news article made from the PR: a decent but superficial retelling of basic points …
And top page of google is pretty much all that …
Wouldn't it be amazing if, instead of this and all the little, often relatively minor commentary on Twitter and elsewhere, you had one (or a few) places where you actually post this article and people could comment on it claim by claim?
Not just have Google-style commenting on the doc, because that would clearly go crazy! Instead, you break down the document into key claims or statements that are being made, and then people make that, which is broken down into subclaims or an issue tree style. People are voting on or commenting on, with evidence, the various branches of that, and it is being aggregated in some useful way to give an overall assessment of how likely this is to happen, or what the key questions are? I do not want an overall evaluation as such, but things like:
- How much will this cost?
- What's actually going on with other fab plants?
- All of the background, underlying questions that would go on from there
I should probably try to do this as an exercise for a couple of things that come out and see how that goes.
Yet another side-project 😉
